We love a Spicy Margarita! They are so nicely tart, sweet, and of course spicy. 🌶️ With the swap from Tequila to our Smoked Jalapeño Vodka they are also perfectly smokey and uh Jalapeño-y. Lime and jalapeño pair with so many flavours, especially fruits! We couldn’t decide on a single favourite variation, so this post will have details on our favourites and a template for you to try your very own variations.
Traditionally, the Margarita is made with Tequila, lime juice and Triple Sec. However, we make our Margaritas similar to the Tommy Margarita. The Tommy Margarita is made with Tequila, lime juice, and agave syrup. Without the Triple Sec, the Tommy Margarita will lack the subtle orange flavours that we expect in a Margarita. We put in a few dashes of orange bitters to add back some of the orange flavours and at the same time, the bitters add bitterness (duh) which helps add balance and complexity to the cocktail. We also swap the Tequila for our Smoked Jalapeño Vodka which adds a smokey complexity similar to using Mezcal in a Margarita. Our Smoked Jalapeño Vodka also adds the vegetal flavour and spice of a fresh green jalapeño. Adding saline solution to cocktails, especially bold citrusy cocktails, helps make the lime and fruity flavours pop. ✨
All of this to say, here is our base for a Spicy Margarita!
2oz – Smoked Jalapeño Vodka
1oz – Lime Juice
0.5oz – Agave Syrup
3 Drops – Saline Solution
1oz – Optional Fruit Juice (or muddled)
Optional Tajin Rim
1. Add the ingredients to a shaker with ice.
2. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
3. Pour all contents from the shaker into a rocks glass.
4. Enjoy!
We have been trying many different variations of this recipe. Our favourite fruits to add to the margarita have been: watermelon, pineapple, mango, strawberry, and peach!
